Worboys, Arthur

Arthur was born in July 1884 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire, the second son of George and Lucy (nee Waldock) Worboys of Ashwell.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Arthur enlisted at Ampthill on 14 December 1915. He served with the 4th Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment, Regimental number 23725, in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders.  He died of wounds on 30 April 1917.

Arthur was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Arthur is buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension, Aubigny-en-Artois, Departement de Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France and commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour and the Ashwell Village War Memorial.

Before enlisting Arthur was a farm labourer.

Arthur married Ethel Winfred Hines on 30 March 1907 and they had three sons, Reginald Arthur born 5 January 1908, Stanley born 20 August 1909 and Edgar born 3 January 1912.

Arthur’s brother, Harold, also served in the War and survived.
