Lee, Thomas

Thomas was born at Ashwell, Hertfordshire in 1880, the second son of James and Emily (nee Hills) Lee.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Thomas enlisted on 10 March 1916 with the Bedfordshire Regiment, Regimental Number 6454. He was about 36 years old. He transferred to the Army Service Company, Regimental Number 350612, and served with the 142nd Company, 16th Division, Transport.  It is not known in which Theatre of War he fought.  He survived the War.

Thomas was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Before enlisting was a farm labourer.

Thomas’s pension ledger card sates he was single and died from disease.  He died on 11 July 1920 in the Ware Hospital and is buried in the New Cemetery, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.

Thomas’s brother William also served in the War and survived.
