Bullimore, Percy Arthur W
Percy was born in the 1st week of December 1899 at Finsbury Park, Islington, Middlesex, the elder son of Mark William and Ruth (nee Brown) Bullimore. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.
Percy enlisted at Hertford, Hertfordshire on 7 December 1917. He was a Private with the Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment, 1st Battalion 13th Brigade 5th Division, Regimental Number G/31109. He fought in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders. He was killed in action on 23 August 1918 aged just 18.
He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
Percy is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Arras, France, Panel 7, the Ashwell Village War Memorial, and St Mary’s Church Honours Roll.
The 1901 census shows him staying with his grandmother in Back Street. Before enlisting in the army Percy had won a scholarship to Clarks College and then had entered the Civil Service where he had a substantial career ahead of him.
The 1911 census shows the family is living in Holloway, London.
