Mole, Albert Edward

Albert was born in Ashwell in the first quarter of 1898, the second son of Edward and Kate (nee Farr) Mole of Ashwell End, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Albert enlisted at Hitchin on 20 October 1916 with the Grenadier Guards, 1st Battalion, Regimental Number 26690, and following his training at Caterham was posted to France in February 1917. He served in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders and was killed in action on 3 December 1917.

Albert was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, Departement du Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour and the Ashwell War Memorial.

Before enlisting was employed by William Pack in Ashwell.
