Loveday, Harry

Harry was born in West Wickham, Cambridgeshire on 6 February 1893, the second son of Simon and Alice (nee Mynott) Loveday of Cold Harbour, near Ashwell, Hertfordshire.

Harry enlisted in Bedford, Bedfordshire om 8 March 1916 and served as a Private with the Duke of Cambridge’s (Middlesex) Regiment, Regimental Number 241598 (formerly 5917) in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders.  He was reported missing presumed killed in action on 30 November 1917, just two weeks after his marriage.

He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Harry is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, Departement du Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France and the Ashwell War Memorial, Hertfordshire.

He married Ethel Gladys Skerman in St Mary’s Church, Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 10 November 1917 just two weeks before he was killed in action in France.
