Eversden, Harry James

Harry was the eldest son of Julius James Eversden and Emma (nee Harradine) Eversden, born at Islington, Middlesex on 7 November 1879.  He was christened in Ashwell and he was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Harry enlisted on 9 April 1916.  He saw active service with the London Regiment, Regimental number 684780 (formerly 5254 and 652264) on the Western Front, France and Flanders.  He survived the War.

Harry was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

 He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

He married Minnie Adelaide Edwards in Deptford on 6 December 1915.  They had one son, George Henry David, born 1915.

The 1939 census shows him and Minnie living in Lewisham, South-east London, with Harry a bus conductor.

Harry died in Bromley, Kent in June 1948.

Harry’s brothers Percy, and (Harvey) Cecil survived the War but his brothers William and Julius were both killed in action.
