Anderson, Percy Charles

Percy was born in June 1891 at Sandon, Hertfordshire, the third son of Ellis and Annie (nee Kingsley) Anderson. Percy was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Percy enlisted on 23 March 1916 and saw active service Royal Ordinance Corps, Regimental number 016010. It is not known in which Theatre of War he served.  He survived the War.

Percy was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Before enlisting he was a bootmaker in his father’s shop.

Percy married Margaret Mary Capham in June 1923 and they do not appear to have had any children.

He died in London on 8 May 1925 at the Middlesex Hospital, Cricklewood, London on 8th May 1925.

Percy’s brother Reginald also served on the Western Front and survived.

Ellis was a bootmaker and beer retailer at the Australian Cow pub in High Street Ashwell.

1. The Australian Cow stood on the corner of High Street and Kingsland Way. It was owned by Messrs Fordham and occupied by Ellis Anderson.
