Covington, Ralph

Ralph was the second son of Amos Covington and Elizabeth (nee Waldock) Covington, born at Islington, London in the 1st quarter 1898.

Ralph enlisted on 18 January 1917.  He served with the 1/5th Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment, Regimental Number 37209.  He saw active service in the Egyptian Theatre of War at the Battles of Gaza and Jaffa.  Ralph ended the war in Palestine.  He survived the War.

Ralph was awarded the British Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Ralph married Florence Newman at Ashwell, Hertfordshire in the 4th quarter of 1929. They had two children. Florence died in June 1954.

The 1939 census shows them living in Ashwell, Hertfordshire, with Ralph a Council road worker.

Ralph married Grace Evelyn Sell at Ashwell in the 4th quarter of 1955.

Ralph died on 24 October 1961 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
