Beale, Alfred George
Alfred was the second child of George and Annie (nee Spring) Beale and was born in Eaton Socon, Bedfordshire. In 1911 the family lived in Odsey, Ashwell Station.
Alfred enlisted at Hitchin in early 1915 and was a Private in the Northern Rifles, Regimental Number 19001. He then transferred to the Essex Regiment 9th Battalion, Regimental Number 41836. He embarked for the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders on 26.12.1915 where, in the battles around Cuincy, France he was killed in action on 13 October 1918 aged 20.
Alfred was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal and the 15 Star.
He is buried in the Douai British Cemetery, Cuincy, Nord, France and commemorated on the Odsey War Memorial.
