Dellar, David John

David was the eldest son of David William and Ellen Phoebe (nee Hobbs) born in the Edmonton District, Middlesex in the 3rd quarter 1876. His parents moved to Ashwell, Hertfordshire when David was a baby and he was a pupil of the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

 David enlisted with the Hampshire Regiment in June 1916, Regimental Number 32369.  This regiment saw active service in the Balkan Theatre of War, Greek Macedonia.  David survived the War.

David was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

David married Emily Babbs at Greenwich, London on 27 November 1897.  It is thought they had no children. Emily died on 16 May 1912.

David married Florence Amelia Baxter in the 4th quarter 1912.  They had four children, Rose Mary born 1914, Florence Ellen born 1916, Donald David born 1921 and Percy James born 1927.

David died in September 1939 at Biggleswade.

The 1939 census shows Florence, a widow, living at Hitchin Street with her children, a master greengrocer.
