Sear, Charles

Charles was born in the 2nd quarter 1878 at Ivinghoe Aston, Buckinghamshire, the 5th son of Benjamin  and Emma (nee Pratt) Sear.

Charles was a Private with the 2nd Battalion of Duke of Cambridge’s Own (Middlesex) Regiment, Regimental Number G/26014 and served in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders.  He was killed in action in Ypres on 31 July 1917.

 He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ypres, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium

According to the 1911 census Charles was a bottler in mineral water, living in Bedford.

He married Mary Goss of Ashwell, Hertfordshire in 4th quarter 1915 in Trinity Church, St Marylebone, London.  At the time of his death Mary was living in Flint Cottage, Ashwell.  Mary married Frederick Clements in 1928 in Ashwell.
