Mole, Stanley Alfred

Stanley was the eldest son of Edward and Kate (nee Farr) Mole, born at Ashwell on 26 June 1896.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylor School in Ashwell.

Stanley enlisted on 5 November 1915.  He served with the 618th Company of the 18th Motor Ambulance Convoy Unit of the Royal Army Service Corps, Regimental Number M2/139254.  He saw active service on the Western Front, France and Flanders.  Stanley survived the War.

He was awarded the 1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal

Stanley is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Before enlisting Stanley worked as a labourer in a brewery in Ashwell.

Stanley married Ada Gladys Surridge in the 1st quarter 1923.  They had two children, Rita born in May 1925 and Gwendolin Edith born in October 1930.

The 1939 census shows them living at Newnham, with Albert a crane slinger at a steel foundry.

Stanley died at Newnham, Hertfordshire on 6 November 1985.
