Skerman, John

John was born on 28 August 1890 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire, the second son of Charles  Bailey Skerman and Celia (nee Austin) Skerman. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

John enlisted on 19 April 1918 with the Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs), Regimental Number G/25934.  On 30 September 1918 he transferred to the Royal Air Force, Regimental Number 299525, but on 4 November 1918 suffered a fractured thigh and was discharged as no longer fit to serve.  John survived the War.

He was awarded the Silver War Badge.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Before enlisting he was a farm labourer.

The 1939 census shows him living at Ashwell with his parents, single and a farm labourer.

It is not known if John married or had children.  It is not known when he died.
