Huffer, Charles
Charles was born at Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 2 October 1889, the fifth son of John and Emily (nee Huffer) Huffer. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylor School in Ashwell.
Charles enlisted in August 1915. He served with the Royal Army Service Corps, Mechanical Transport Company, Regimental Number M2/116294, and saw active service on the Western Front, France and Flanders. He survived the War.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.
The 1911 census shows him living in Biggleswade and working as a chauffeur.
He married Ada Isabella Waldock at Luton, Bedfordshire in 2nd quarter 1915 just before enlisting in the army. They had one child, Philip J born in December 1923 at Luton.
The 1939 census shows them living in Luton with Charles a lorry driver.
Charles died on 4 April 1968 in Luton.
Two of Charles’s brothers, Walter and Lewis, served in the War and both survived. His brother Arthur emigrated to America in 1905.
