Hall, Albert Francis
Albert was the son of Emily Frances Hall, born on 9 July 1899 at Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire. In about 1913 he moved to live in Ashwell, Hertfordshire with Mr and Mrs C Reynolds.
Albert served with the 12th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles, Regimental Number 50097, and was sent to the Western Front, France and Flanders. He was actively involved in many battles on the Front, including Courtrai where on 20 October 1918 he suffered a shrapnel wound to his thigh, from a shell exploding in the midst of his platoon. He survived the War.
Albert was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.
Albert married Mabel Eveline Smith at Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 6 January 1923. They had four daughters, Ruby Emily Frances born 1923, Gladys born 1925, Doreen May born 1928 and Margaret Rose born 1935.
The 1939 census shows them living in Ashwell with Albert a builder’s labourer.
Albert died on 23 May 1994 at his home in Arlesey, Bedfordshire but is buried in Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
