Moule, William John

William was born at Thriplow, Cambridgeshire on 11 March 1896, the eldest son of Alfred and Alice Mary (nee Surrey) Moule.

Nothing is known of William’s military history except that he enlisted in May 1915.  He survived the War.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

The 1901 census shows him living in Willian, Hertfordshire and the 1911 census shows him living in Stevenage.

William married Elsie Kate Mole at Ashwell, Hertfordshire in the third quarter 1921.  They had three children, Dorothy M born 1922, Derrick W born 1925 and Jean E born 1927.

The 1939 census shows William and Elsie living with their family at the Caretakers Lodge, Boys Grammar School, Hitchin where William was the school caretaker and Elsie a school cook.

William died at Hitchin on 22 October 1981.
