Fordham, Oswald

Oswald was born at Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 25 September 1889, the second son of Edward Snow Fordham and Annie (nee Carr Jackson) Fordham.  He was educated at Northaw School, Hatfield and Trinity College, Cambridge.

Oswald enlisted in September 1914 with the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Regiment, Light Infantry Battalion and was commissioned temporary 2nd Lieutenant.  Nothing is known of his war history but it is believed he saw active service on the Western Front, France and Flanders.  He was wounded at the end of 1916 and was invalided out of the army.  He survived the War.

Oswald was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the Silver War Badge.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Oscar never married.  The 1939 census shows him living at Chelsea, single, of independent means.  The electoral rolls for Chelsea London until 1960 support this.

Oswald had his home in London but spent a lot of time travelling the world.

He died on 29 November 1962.
