Anns, Frederick
Frederick was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School. Frederick’s probate record states he was of Redlands, Ashwell, Baldock.
Frederick enlisted in 1914 and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment, attached to the 2nd Battalion 21st Brigade 7th Division. He was mobilised on 7 October 1914 and landed at Zeebrugge, in the Western European Theatre of War, France. Frederick was killed in action in France on 6 November 1915.

Frederick’s father Thomas was born in Bexley, Kent but Frederick, his mother Mary Ann and his two brothers Thomas and Alexander Emslie were born in Scotland. Frederick’s war records show Thomas and Mary Anne Anns, of “Brookville,” Hale Lane, Edgware, Middlesex. His father was a jute or linen merchant in London and his brother Alexander Emslie, who was also in the cloth trade but whose business became bankrupt on 22 July 1907, was Frederick’s sole legatee.
