Waldock, Joseph William

Joseph was born at Islington, London in the 1st quarter 1901, the elder son of Joseph and Annie (nee Harradine) Waldock.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Joseph enlisted with the Royal Navy on 26 February 1918.  Nothing is known of his military history except from the Absent Voters Lists.  Joseph survived the War.

After the War Joseph remained in the Navy for a number of years, travelling the China Seas, Pacific Waters and East Indies. The Absent Voters List for 1925 shows him serving on the HMS Diomede, and for 1926 on HMS Fisgard.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Joseph married Olive May Brooks at Ashwell, Hertfordshire in the 4th Quarter 1927.  They had one son, Jack Graham, born in 3rd quarter 1932.

The electoral rolls for 1930 and 1938 show them living at Dubbs Knoll, Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire.  The 1939 census shows Olive, remarried, living with her son in the Guilden Morden area.

Joseph died at Ashwell on 27 September 1984.
