Fabb, William David

William was the fourth son of John and Lucy (nee Wilmot) Fabb, born at Ashwell Station (Odsey) Hertfordshire, born on 27 February 1878.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

William enlisted on 27 August 1917 with the Royal Naval Air Service, Service Number F36320.  After completing his training he transferred to the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918, Service Number 236320.  His military records show his rank as Aircraftman II. William survived the War .

William was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

William’s military records show him as a master grocer.

William married Flora Maud Lockyer at St George’s Church, Tufnell Park, Islington, London on 13 August 1905.  They had two sons, Frank William, born on 14 June 1906, and David John born 16 Jan 1913.

The 1939 census shows them living in Islington, London with William a shopkeeper of a tea, groceries and provisions store.

He died in Barnet, Hertfordshire on 18 May 1967.

William’s brother Mortimer John also served in the War and survived.
