William first joined the army on 27th February 1893, with the Royal Artillery, Regimental Number 96285. He was posted to India on 14th December 1893 and stayed there until 16th December 1896 when he was posted to Aden, Yemen. On 4th November 1898 he was again posted to India where he remained until 5th April 1902. He then returned home to Ashwell and was discharged from the army on 26th February 1905.
At the outbreak of World War I William enlisted on 7th September 1914 with the Royal Garrison Artillery, Regimental Number 279781. He was posted to the 3rd Company, Devon Battalion, Southern Division.
William survived the War and died in Barnet, Hertfordshire in the 1st quarter 1964.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

William was born in the 2nd quarter 1873 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire, the third son of Levi and Mary Ann (nee Goss) Waldock. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.
William married Emmeline Waldock (mother Hannah Strickland (nee Waldock)) on 15th April 1905 at Islington, London. They had one daughter, Mary Ann Doris, born on 27th August 1909 in London.
William died in Barnet, Hertfordshire in the 1st quarter 1964.
