Leonard was the fourth son of James and Elizabeth (nee Haggar) Clark, born in Benington, Hertfordshire in the first quarter of 1899. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylor School in Ashwell. His father was the policeman in Ashwell for many years.
The 1911 census shows Leonard as a farm labourer.
Two of Leonard’s brothers, Reginald George and Walter Henry, also served in the War and both survived.
It is not known if Leonard married, nor when he died.
