Frederick enlisted on 26th June 1914 with the Royal Field Artillery, Regimental Number 78106. He was sent to the Western Front, France and Flanders on 9th February 1915. He survived the War and died on 15th April 1976.
Frederick was awarded the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Frederick was the eldest son of Edward Thomas and Emily Mary (nee Sole) Freeman born at Wallington, Hertfordshire in the 3rd quarter 1896. He and his family lived in Ashwell when he was growing up and he was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School there.
He married Dorothy Alice Leppard at St John the Evangelist Church, Westminster, London in October 1923. They had one daughter, Nora Eileen Freeman born in July 1925 at Walkern, Hertfordshire.
Frederick was the licensee of The Anchor pub in Sandon for the years 1949-1952.
He died at Therfield on 15th April 1976.
