Charles enlisted in August 1915. He served with the Royal Army Service Corps, Mechanical Transport Company, Regimental Number M2/116294, and saw active service on the Western Front, France and Flanders. He survived the War.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Charles was born in Ashwell, Hertfordshire in the 4th quarter of 1889, the fifth son of John and Emily (nee Huffer) Huffer. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylor School in Ashwell.  The 1911 census shows him living in Biggleswade and working as a chauffeur.

He married Ada Isabella Waldock in Luton, Bedfordshire in 2nd quarter 1915 just before enlisting in the army.  They had one child, Philip J Huffer born in December 1923 in Luton.

Charles died on 4th April 1968 in Luton.

Two of Charles’s brothers, Walter and Lewis, served in the War and both survived.
