Albert enlisted on 25th February 1915. He saw active service with the Duke of Cambridge’s Own (Middlesex) Regiment, Regimental Number G/67122, in the Battles of the Somme and the Battles of Ypres where he was wounded.  Albert was discharged on 1st December 1919 as no longer fit for military service.

Albert survived the War and it is possible he died in 1975.

Albert was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the Silver War Badge.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Albert was the fourth son of James and Mary Anne Alice (nee Austin) Tott, born in Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 7th February 1891.  Before enlisting Albert was a butcher’s assistant.

In 1928/9 Albert moved to live with his brother Frederick George on Church Farm, Holwell, Bedfordshire.

Albert is no longer listed as living at Church Farm after 1936. It is possible that he married Edith Gray in 1936 and died in 1975.

Albert’s brother Frederick emigrated to New Zealand where he worked as a butcher. During WWI Frederick served with the ANZAC Forces and earned the Military Medal.

Albert’s brother Wilfred emigrated to Canada in 1913 and settled in Ontario.
