Percy was a private in the Household Cavalry and Cavalry of the Line Regiment, Hertfordshire Yeomanry 1/1st Battalion. He joined the army in November 1916 and after completing his training was posted to the Middle East in October 1916. Percy died on 11th July 1917 in Mesopotamia as a result of the effects of sunstroke and was one of three brothers (cousins?) who lost their lives during the war.
He is commemorated at Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq grave ref XX.M.7., on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour, and on the Ashwell Village Memorial.
Percy was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Percy was the nephew of Edward and Kate (nee Farr) Mole of Ashwell and was brought up by the couple from a very early age.
He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School, Ashwell.
