William Thomas Wylie was born on 10 July 1874 at Logiealmond, Perthshire, Scotland, the third son of Thomas and Jessie (nee McAinsh) Wylie. He is still living in Scotland in 1901 but the 1911 census shows him living at Ashwell with his family and employed as a farm bailiff.
