Rev Alfred Wayment
Over sixty years ago, a young Ashwell boy was working his way up in the teaching profession. He later, became headmaster of the Bishop Temple School for boys in Lambeth.
On completing his service as a schoolmaster, and reaching retiring age, he proceeded to take up the work which had always been his heart’s desire that of a clergyman Rev Alfred Wayment became a Canon of Ely Cathedral.
All through the busy years, as teacher and as priest, he kept alive his love for the little village where he lived as a child. Alfred Wayment as a little boy, sitting on the little gallery which was then a part of the Infant School, could have no idea of the way his life was to unfold, until he had risen to great heights in two separate spheres.
