Frederick Ernest Webster

(Updated July 2010)

We have his birth certificate saying that he was born in Royston Workhouse September 1,1911, so he was not on the 1911 census, issued April 2, 1911, Two previous children were ‘boarded out’ before 1911. Frederick Ernest Webster’s mother Emma Webster married Herbert Randall, a widow, in 1913 at Royston Registry Office, They lived in Guilden Morden. Twins Herbert and Emma Randall were born but sadly died, Beartrice Randall was born in 1915. We assume the children went to Guilden Morden school.

Frederick Ernest Webster had said that he worked at Westbury Farm Ashwell which would have been run by Benjamin Christy, Annie Maria Christy and Albert Bernard Christy, when Fred was 14 – 21years old. We have not been able to confirm this.

The 1930 Electoral Register shows Emma Randall, Herbert Randall and Reginald Herbert Randall living at 21 Council Cottages, Ashwell.

The 1932 Electoral Register shows Emma Randall and Reginald Herbert Randall at 21 Council Cottages, Ashwell.

When Emma Randall (nee Webster) entered The Three Counties Hospital in 1933 Frederick Webster was quoted as son, next of kin, their address was given as 21 Council Cottages, Ashwell.

While in Ashwell, Frederick met his future wife Ruby Jarvis, a ladies maid, whom he married in 1938 in Warwickshire.

Frederick served in the Royal Engineers from 1940 to 1952.

The 1953/54 Electoral Register shows Frederick and Ruby living at Pixie Cottage (Opposite The Engine) now known as 51/53, Back Street, Ashwell.

Please have any of you come across records, letters or notes that your parents have kept that mention Frederick Ernest Webster or Ruby Jarvis ?
