Walter was born in the 3rd quarter 1876, the eldest son of John and Emily (nee Huffer) Huffer in Ashwell, Hertfordshire. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.
Walter married Alice Green in Bethnal Green, London in the 3rd quarter of 1901. They had three children, Alice Emily born 1902, Ethel Maud born 1905 and Walter Edward born 1908.
The 1911 census shows Walter as a ledger clerk for a gas and electric engineer in Battersea, London.
Walter died on 25th August 1954 Whiteley Village, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.
Two of Walter’s brothers, Lewis and Charles, served in the War and both survived.
