Thomas enlisted on 3rd January 1916. Nothing is known of his military history but from the 1918 Absent Voters Roll he is listed as being a private with the 433rd Agricultural Co, Labour Corps. The agricultural companies were formed from soldiers who were no longer fit for frontline combat duties. Their task was to work the land as there were major labour shortages due to the war and food production was vital. This implies that Thomas had been wounded but we have no records for this. Thomas survived the War and died in the 4th quarter 1947.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.
