Stanley enlisted on 5th November 1915.  He served with the 618th Company of the 18th Company, 18th Motor Ambulance Convoy Unit of the Royal Army Service Corps, Regimental Number M2/139254.  He saw active service on the Western Front, France and Flanders.  Stanley survived the War and died at Newnham, Hertfordshire on 6 November 1985.

He was awarded the 1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal

Stanley is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Stanley was the eldest son of Edward and Kate (nee Farr) Mole, born in Ashwell on 26th June 1896.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.  Before enlisting Stanley worked as a labourer in a brewery in Ashwell.

Stanley married Ada Gladys Surridge in the 1st quarter 1923.  They had two children, Rita born in May 1925 and Gwendolin Edith born in October 1930.

Stanley died at Newnham, Hertfordshire on 6th November 1985.

  • Hello Steve, I am pretty sure this is not the Albert Mole of the transport company. Stan lived in Newnham and Albert who ran the coach business was Albert E Mole lived, at least towards the end of his life, at 126, Ashwell Street, Ashwell

  • Does anybody know if Albert was the owner later of A Mole transport Ashwell please any photos of the transport firm who ran lorries and coach’s would be Greatly appreciated
