Percy enlisted on 23rd March 1916 and saw active service Royal Ordinance Corps, Regimental number 016010. It is not known in which Theatre of War he served.

He survived the War and died in London on 8th May 1925.

Percy was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Percy was born in June 1891 in Sandon, Hertfordshire, the third son of Ellis and Annie (nee Kingsley) Anderson. Ellis was a bootmaker and beer retailer at the Australian Cow pub in High Street Ashwell.

Percy was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell and before enlisting was a bootmaker in his father’s shop.

Percy married Margaret Mary Capham in June 1923 and they do not appear to have had any children.

Percy died at the Middlesex Hospital, Cricklewood, London on 8th May 1925

Percy’s brother Reginald also served on the Western Front and survived.

Commentary:

The Australian Cow, beerhouse, stood on the corner of High Street and Kingsland Way. It was owned by Messrs Fordham and occupied by Ellis Anderson.
