Frank enlisted at Hitchin on 15th February 1917. He served in the Western European Theatre of War with the Royal Fusiliers (London Regiment), 3rd Battalion, Regimental number 59537. He was formerly TR/9/1838 with the Training Battalion. Frank was wounded in action on 17th October 1918 and died at a Casualty Clearing Station two days later on 19th October 1918.
Frank was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
He is buried at Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension, Roisel, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France and commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour and the Ashwell War Memorial.

Frank was the fourth son of David and Clara (nee Kirbyshire) Potton of 42 Station Rd, Ashwell, Hertfordshire. He was a pupil of the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell and before he enlisted he had been employed by Bailey & Co and Mr Thomas Wylie.
After his death his parents named their house Roisel after the place where Frank is buried.
