Henry served as a private in the Hertfordshire Regiment, 1st Battalion, regimental number 5816. He died in hospital in Aylesbury on 9th March 1916.
Henry is buried in the St Mary’s Churchyard, Ashwell. He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour and on the Ashwell Village War Memorial.
He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Henry was born in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire second son of David and Ellen (nee Hobbs) Dellar, but the 1901 census shows the family living in Station Rd, Ashwell. The 1911 census shows that David and Ellen had 12 children, eight of whom were surviving but only 3 are listed on the census. At the time of his death his parents were living in Hinxworth Road, Ashwell.
Henry was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School, Ashwell. Before enlisting in the army Henry was a domestic gardener.
