Nothing is known of Ambrose’s military history apart from his enlistment date of September 1914 and the entry in the Absent Voters List of 1918 which lists him as serving, Regimental Number 241052, with the Labour Corps, Agricultural Co, Northampton. Agricultural companies were not so much recruited as formed from soldiers no longer fit enough for front line combat duties, in much the same way as some labour battalions were, so it is assumed Ambrose was wounded in action.
Ambrose survived the War but it is not known when he died.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.
