Algernon enlisted with the Honourable Artillery Company on 4th October 1915, initially Regimental number 6419 and later 625213. He would have served in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders. He survived the war and returned to London.
He was killed in a road traffic accident on 15th September 1920.
Algernon was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
He is buried in Ashwell, Hertfordshire and commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Algernon was the elder son of Albert William and Eliza Madeline (nee Harbord) Chote born in the 3rd quarter 1878 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors school in Ashwell where his father was the headmaster.
Algernon went to live in London in about 1900 where he was a schoolmaster.
He died very suddenly in the street outside Finsbury Park Station, London on 15th September 1920 after being struck by a motorcar.

Another old boy from the school, Mr Algernon H Chote enlisted in the Honourable Artillery Company. This took the school Roll of Honour to over 100.
