Annual Village Open Day

By Peter Greener

Sunday 14th May 2017 11 to 5pm

Yes the date has been set for next year already. It is right in the middle of the Ashwell Music Festival and we have started to think of wonderful new things to do along with many of the familiar attractions that you all love.

Sunday 8th May 2016  11 to 5pm
was a very successful day. The weather contributed a lot, it was probably the warmest 'Ashwell at Home' we have ever had. Everybody enjoyed the welcoming relaxed atmosphere around the village and the mind boggling variety of things to do on the day.

'Ashwell at Home' has been held on the second Sunday in May every year since 1983 and 2016 will be the 33rd Anniversary of this popular event.

It was started to fund the first extension of the Ashwell Village Museum and since achieving that has helped fund a further extension too. Now the profits go towards the running costs of the museum but are also shared with St Mary’s Church and Ashwell Primary School.

Although gardens are the main attraction the village is covered with a wealth of amusing, entertaining, informative, interesting and refreshing events which make for a packed afternoon with something for all the family.

The next 'Ashwell at Home' will be on Sunday 8th May 2016, from 11 am until 5pm

The theme will be 'Ashwell Treasure'

We plan a great variety of old favourites and exciting new features for your amusement:

  • 15 gardens open around the village
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Guided Walks exploring Ashwell's Treasures
  • Children's Fun Craft Activities
  • Range of exhibitions
  • Ashwell at Work
  • Archeological Dig
  • Live Music and the 'Big Sing'
  • Morris and Tudor Dancing to watch and join in
  • Veteran Cyclists
  • Fun Fair
  • Refreshments including lunches, teas and BBQ available

Entry is £6 per person (under 14s free) with free parking
