Percy volunteered at Wallingford, Oxfordshire on 8th December 1915 and was called up on 19th August 1918.  He was posted to the 25th Battalion of the Tank Corps, Regimental Number 310101.  It is not known if he saw active service on the Western Front.  He was posted to the 20th Battalion on 10th April 1919 and demobilised on 23rd September 1919.

Percy survived the War and died at Bullingdon, Oxfordshire in the 2nd quarter 1970.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Percy was born at Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 26th February 1888, the 6th son of Charles and Annie (nee Stamford) Strickland.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell. Before enlisting Percy as an assistant at the Fair Mile Hospital (Asylum) in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.

Percy married Gladys Archidale Bull on 17th May 1917 at Dorchester, Oxfordshire.  It is not known if they had children.

Percy died at Bullingdon, Oxfordshire in the 2nd quarter 1970.


Percy’s brothers Bertie, Eugene, William and Victor all served in the War and survived.  His brother Oben died from wounds in the Battle of the German Retreat to the Hindenburg Line.
