Joseph enlisted on 3rd June 1916 with the Royal Horse Artillery, Regimental Number 157870, and served in England.  In 1917 he transferred to the Royal Field Artillery, Regimental Number 656414, 126th Army Brigade and saw active service in France until the end of the War.

Joseph was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

Joseph survived the War and died on 24th December 1955. 

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Joseph was the sixth son of Walter and Annis (nee Sale, 2nd wife) Harradine born in Hinxworth, Hertfordshire in the 2nd quarter of 1893.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell, Hertfordshire.  The 1911 census shows him a jobbing gardener.   

Joseph married Louisa Godfrey in the 4th quarter of 1915 in the Biggleswade district.  They had three sons, Stanley Joseph born in the 2nd quarter of 1917, Philip W born in the 3rd quarter of 1921, and Maurice George born in the 4th quarter of 1924.

He died in Weston Favel, Northamptonshire on 24th December 1955.
