John (Jack) Christy was born 20 August 1911 in Ashwell the son of Harry Oakley Christy and Louisa Patey who owned and ran Christy's (Ashwell Stores). For more information about the Christy family and shop please refer to the 'Places' 'Shops' headings on this website.
Jack attended The Grammar School, Hitchin in the early 1920s.
Jack married Myra Anderson in 1933 later divorcing.
His first driving licence is dated 8th May 1934 showing his address as High Street, Ashwell. In 1937 his licence shows his address as "Arbury", Newnham Hill, Ashwell (No 1 Newnham Hill)
He served as a flight Sgt in the RAF during WWII in the Pigeon Service spending time at the Sandringham Royal Lofts and later in Iran and Egypt.
Jack married Florence Grace Boddy in 1947. Florence served in the WRAF during WWII as a Sgt Barrage Balloon Operator.
They had one daughter Patricia
