Nothing is known of John’s military history except that he was a Driver with the Royal Field Artillery, Regimental Number 234507. He survived the War and it is thought he died in 1948/9 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
John was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

John married Phoebe Picking in the 3rd quarter 1903 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire. They had nine children: James Hedworth born 8.8.1905, Mabel Caroline born 13.3.1907, John Henry born 11.9.1909, Ada Mary born 12.1.1912, Rhoda Evelyn born 6.3.1914, Lilian Shirley born 16.12.1916, Edith May born 3.5.1921, Robert John born 1.9.1923 and Elizabeth Mary born 18.4.1926.
It is thought John died in 1948/9 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
