Edward had been a pupil at the Malvern College and for three years had served in their Officers Training Corps. Edward enlisted on 29th January 1915 with the Inns of Court Officers Training Corps, Regimental Number 2813. He was stationed at Berkhamsted with the Training Squadron until 9th July 1915 when he was discharged as being ‘no longer required’. He served for 162 days.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Edward was the third son of Harold Dawson Critchley and Amy Corinne (nee Fordham) Critchley. Edward’s parents emigrated to Canada in 1892. His father settled as a ‘Ranchero’ (rancher) but his mother returned to England before Edward was born in Eastbourne, East Sussex on 18th June 1897. Edward was a pupil at the Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire. He was the grandson of Edward King Fordham of Redlands Grange, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
Edward settled in Kijango, North Nyeri, Kenya. He is listed as a Radiographer on his obituary notice. He died in Kiganjo on 26th June 1963.
It is not known if he married or had children.
