  • A little clarification and expansion: Arthur was living in Ashwell in 1851 at 140 Green Street with his brothers Benjamin and James and sister Esther and parents. I have never found any usage of a middle name for Arthur.
Arthur arrived in New York on 15 May 1862 along with his friend from Ashwell, John Goodchild.
Brother Benjamin had emigrated in 1854 and spent 2 years in Vermont with an uncle (according to his obituary) before settling near Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. He was later joined by Arthur and then his parents and sister Esther (in 1872) and younger brother David. There are other Ashwell families who settled in Ross County, among the names are Bailey, Goodchild and Warboys. By 1870, Arthur moved on to farmland in Jersey County, Illinois and has many descendants across the United States.
