Alfred enlisted at Hitching and was a private in the Essex Regiment 9th Battalion, regimental number 41836. He fought in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders and was killed in action on 13 October 1918 aged 20.
Alfred was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
He is commemorated Odsey War Memorial.
